Honokiol is a magnolol isomer, which is a dimer formed by polymerizing the side chain of one phenylpropanoid and the benzene nucleus of another phenylpropanol, called new lignans, in the Lauraceae plant It is found more in the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory active ingredients of the traditional Chinese medicine Magnolia officinalis.
